Cats in Dreams

Cats. You either love 'em or hate 'em. Marcel and I love them and at one time, we had three of them at once. But loving cats can make it difficult sometimes to interpret our dreams when this element shows up because cats aren't necessarily always a positive symbol.

I don't think that we find cats in scripture, but if we look at how God created them, we can observe that cats are independent creatures. Because of this natural trait, we can then conclude that cats in a dream will often represent independent thinking. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. We need to be able to think for ourselves and come to our own conclusions, guided by the light of the Holy Spirit. Still in the positive, cats can represent the ability to think outside the box and breaking free from the control of people.

However, because cats will often do what they want, when they want, they can represent a tendency towards willfulness and failure to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. They can represent a rebellious spirit vs a spirit of obedience, pride and arrogance versus humility.

Let's now dive into other more specific meanings of the cat symbol as well as some expressions using the word "cat". They may come in handy the next time you dream of cats.
A pet project = This can be a project, an activity, a goal or a hobby that is a personal favourite and that is generally pursued on one's own time.
A black cat = Associated with witchcraft.
= Demonic presence.
= Familiar spirits.
= Death
A cat burgler = A thief who uses stealth and agility to break into buildings.
Let the cat out of the bag = This means that someone has inadvertently revealed something that was supposed to remain secret.
A kitten = Someone that is young in their faith.
= A young Christian.
= An innocent person.
= Naughty child that can grow up to be rebellious or prideful.
A fat cat = It is a derogatory term that describes a person who has acted dishonourably to achieve a great amount of wealth.
It can also symbolize a powerful person such as a business man or a politician.
A cool cat = A fashionable person.
= Someone who is very calm and slow to anger. Someone laid back and easy-going.
Cat nap = Ability to sleep or doze for a short period of time.
= A siesta.
I've enjoyed building this post on cats in dreams! Jesus loves to use imagery and parables to convey His message, but since He is the Word, He also enjoys using puns and wordplays to have a bit of fun with us. And there are many more expressions containing the word "cat" such as "scaredy cat, copy cat, raining cats and dogs, hellcat, morals of an alley cat, to fight like cats and dogs, look what the cat dragged in, cat's meow" and such.

As always, there are a few things to consider as you decipher your cat dreams. The context plays a big role in being able to understand God's message but colour can also be important. The colour of the cat can enhance and give texture to the meaning, as for example, a blue cat could symbolize someone who is able to think outside the box (independent thinker) and is therefore more able to receive revelation (blue) from the Lord.
